What is a Reeve?
Lochac Reeves are the Chief Financial Officer for their group (i.e. a Barony, Shire or Canton) and are responsible for maintaining the finances and assets held by that group. For the purposes of managing the group finances – a group is also to referred to as branch. Reeves report the the Chancellor of the Exchequer and must abide by the relevant Lochac policies, notably:
- SCA Corpora (April 2022)
- The Laws of Lochac (2016)
- The financial policies of SCA Ltd (Australia) and SCANZ (New Zealand/Aotearoa)
- The Lochac Procedures Manual (2021).

A group’s Reeve is the primary manager of the Branch’s bank account(s), and is therefore, responsible for managing income and expenditure and reporting. This includes monthly reconciliation of their branch accounts, uploading receipts and or invoices for any expense transactions that have occurred as well as uploading both Council Meeting Minutes and any Sign-In sheets for activities. Every three months, Reeves must submit a Quarterly Report to the Chancellor of the Exchequer quarterly, by the 15th of January, April, July, and October. These reports are required to facilitate the functions of the Corporate entities by which the SCA is governed.
Reeves submit an annual Doomsday Report – which provides insight into how a branch has operated over the previous 12 months. It includes information on events, groups assets any profit or loss made by the group, as well as other relevant matters. Other regular tasks undertaken by Reeves include to:
- prepare a report for their local group council, as required by their group seneschal (normally every month)
- annually review the groups Assets register for items costing $300 or more
- any additional tasks required by the Chancellor of the Exchequer or their Deputies.
Every Reeve is encouraged to have a deputy Reeve if possible and to develop good working relations with the groups Council officers and event stewards.
Can I be a Reeve for my group?
You can apply the position of group Reeve if you:
- are a member of the SCA in Ltd or SCANZ
- are 18 years or older and are eligible to be an officer of a company (in Australia), or an incorporated society (in New Zealand)
- do not also hold a position on the SCA Ltd. Board or SCANZ
- do not also hold any of the positions of Baron/Baroness, or Seneschal, within the group, nor co-habits with the group Seneschal or Baron/Baroness
- do not have any Sanctions currently against them that would prohibit them from either becoming a group officer or dealing with financial matters
- do not hold a Reeve or Exchequer position up- or down-line from the one they are applying for (e.g. a Canton Reeve cannot also be the Baronial Reeve or Kingdom Exchequer or regional Deputy)
- have access to a stable internet connection.
